Canadian Futurism: An Invitation For Imaginative Art
We at Modern Times Stage Company are committed to exploring, imagining and creating exciting, radical, performing arts, while empowering voices that have been historically and presently marginalized. We are an organization that creates original Canadian art, re-imagines classic work, and adapts plays in different languages and contexts to bring holistic and innovative forms to our contemporary and diverse Canadian audiences. We have been nominated for 60+ Dora Awards in our 31 years of existence, and are coming off the heels of the smash hit, The House of Bernarda Alba, co-produced with Aluna Theatre, and are soon opening Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo with Crow’s Theatre, directed by our Artistic Director, Rouvan Silogix.
There are numerous direct opportunities to engage with us - and as such we present an Open Invitation to artists, creators, arts workers, marketers, producers, administrators, fundraisers, and leaders to engage with Modern Times. We are interested in hearing from folks from Immigrant, Persian, Desi, Middle-Eastern, IBPOC, LGBTQ+ and mixed-race communities. We would like to hear from anyone with a radical idea, an artistic, community-based business, or who is deeply engaged with our practice at Modern Times.
We want to bring you with us, and get to know you!

Rouvan Silogix named new Artistic Director
The Board of Directors of Modern Times Stage Company are delighted to announce that Rouvan Silogix will become the company’s next Artistic Director. Rouvan will succeed Soheil Parsa, who announced last April he would be stepping down after 31 years of artistic leadership.
“On behalf of the board of directors, I am pleased to announce that Rouvan Silogix has been unanimously selected to lead Modern Times as the next artistic director,” said Board Chair charles c. smith. “Rouvan brings extensive experience in theatre, working at the cutting edges of identities, marginalization and power. His use of stories and theatre techniques are exciting and will certainly add to the legacy Modern Times has set over the past three decades.”
Rouvan Silogix is an award-winning immigrant Pakistani-Tanzanian writer, director, performer, and classical pianist. His work primarily explores imaginative forms of art, often reimagining classical texts, digging into the profound and complex sociopolitical issues of our times.
