In a simple performance style inspired by the Persian passion play Ta’ziyeh Khani, Modern Times production of Macbeth broke through conventional political and psychological interpretations of this classic work to expose its metaphysical roots. Nine actors in simple black costumes interpreted all the roles with scarves to delineate character. A round disk in the middle of the stage served for a set; some cloth, a bowl and two flashlights were the only props.
